New Amazon Kindle devices part 2

Reviews Gadgets

The Amazon Kindle Fire is a long awaited device and again we are looking at a 2012 release date for the UK. So should you get one? This is very much an entertainment tablet and I think it would be perfect for families or teenagers, especially with a low US price of $200. It comes with a vibrant 7” colour touchscreen which has a wide viewing angle, perfect for watching movies.

Kindle Fire gives you one-touch access to the Amazon App Store, plus Amazon's music, movie and book stores. Amazingly, all the digital content you download from Amazon stores is saved on free Cloud storage, meaning you don’t need loads of space on your tab to save everything, which is why the Fire only comes with 8GB of memory. It is a wifi only tab, which is great if you’ve already downloaded everything, but what if you are desperate to watch an episode in the 5th series of FRIENDS and you can’t find a wireless network?! The Fire also doesn’t have a camera; a front facing camera at least would have been nice. I think this is a good starter for Amazon but I can’t wait to see the tablets they'll come out with in the future.

Debbie's verdict:

If you’re desperate to get a 3G eReader straight away then the old Kindle Keyboard is still a great choice while you're waiting for the new Kindle Touch to be released. But if you don't mind sacrificing the convenience of 3G, at just £89 the new Kindle is definitely a winner. I can’t wait to get my hands on one on the 12th October release date. For me, Amazon have brought out the best new e-Reader device in the UK, and with its amazing low price it gets my 5 out of 5.
