Tesco mobile APN settings

Trying to access the internet or send multimedia messages via the Tesco mobile network? Read this APN guide to find out how to connect your smart phone or feature phone to the network, so that you can browse the web, retrieve email or send MMS messages to friends.

The settings listed below are as complete as possible at time of writing, and are intended for use in handsets with UK SIM cards issued by Tesco mobile. Please bear in mind that there may be minor differences in the appearance, and order of entry of the settings, when comparing your handset to those used in the preparation of these guides.

The settings for Contract (postpay) and Pay As You Go (prepay) on Tesco mobile are the same, despite the fact the the APN settings themselves have the word 'prepay' in them. Simply enter the settings as listed, and they should work.

How to connect an Android mobile phone to Tesco data services

Getting your Android handset online can be a challenge when it comes to putting the settings in manually but don’t worry, we're here to help.

From the homescreen;

  1. Tap the Menu button
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Wireless and networks or More... (depending on your version of Android)
  4. Tap Mobile Networks
  5. Tap Access point names
  6. Tap the Menu button
  7. Tap New APN
  8. Enter the following data into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    Name - Tesco Internet
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Proxy - 193.113.200.195
    Port - 8080
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    MMSC - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    MMS Proxy - 193.113.200.195
    MMS Port - 8080
    Authentication type - PAP
    APN type - If given a choice, select internet+mms, if the keyboard appears enter *
    (As a check, the image below shows blue text in the fields you should have completed)
  9. Tap the Menu button
  10. Tap Save
  11. Enable the newly-added APN by ensuring the line is ticked, or the radio button is lit by tapping on it
  12. Check the notification bar for H, 3G, E or G with up and down arrows beside it, which will indicate your connection is working

How to connect an iPhone to Tesco data services

An iPhone usually sets up APNs automatically, but if you need to enter them manually, here's how.

From the homescreen;

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Mobile data or Cellular data
  4. Tap Mobile data network or Cellular data network
  5. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    Mobile/Cellular Data:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    Visual Voicemail:
    MMS:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    MMSC - http://mmsc-ac.mms.o2.co.uk:10021/mmsc
    MMS Proxy - 193.113.200.195:8080
    MMS Max Message Size - 2097152
    (As a check, the image below shows blue text in the fields you should have completed)
  6. Tap the left arrow at the top three times
  7. Press the home button
  8. On the status bar at the top of the screen, next to the name of your mobile network, you should now see a data connection indicator 3G, E or o. This means the data connection is live and working.

How to connect a BlackBerry 10 phone to Tesco data services

Getting your BlackBerry 10 smartphone online can be a challenge when it comes to putting the settings in manually but don’t worry, the guide below will help you get up and running on the mobile web in no time.

On BlackBerry 10 devices, the internet APN and MMS APN settings are entered in different places.

Internet APN

From the homescreen:

  1. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Network Connections
  4. Tap Mobile Network
  5. Tap APN
  6. At the top of the screen, tap on the Mobile Plan selector to choose Contract or Prepay
  7. Enter the following information in the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    Access Point Name - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    (As a check, the image below left shows blue text in the fields you should have completed)
  8. Tap Save in the top right corner
  9. You should now see 3G, H, E or G next to the signal bars at the top of the display. This indicates you are connected to the data network

MMS APN

From the homescreen;

  1. Swipe left-to-right across the screen to access the Hub
  2. Tap Menu (3 dots)
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Text Messages
  5. Tap Advanced
  6. Scroll down past the SMS Settings
  7. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    APN Settings:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    MMSC Settings:
    MMSC URL - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    Proxy URL - 193.113.200.195:8080

  8. Tap Save at the bottom of the screen

How to connect a windows phone to Tesco data services

Getting your Windows Phone device online can be a challenge when it comes to putting the settings in manually but don’t worry, the guide below will help you get up and running on the mobile web in no time.

There are some differences in the settings between Windows Phone 8.1 and it's predecessors, Windows Phone 7/7.5/7.8 and Windows Phone 8, so we will look at these separately.

Windows Phone 8.1

From the homescreen:

  1. Swipe your finger from right to left across the screen to access the Apps list.
  2. Find and tap on the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down this list until you find cellular + SIM or Mobile + SIM, then press on it to continue.
  4. Make sure your Data connection is set to On, then scroll down and tap on SIM settings.
  5. At the bottom of the SIM settings page are options to edit internet APN and edit MMS APN. Tap on edit Internet APN to modify your internet connection settings.
  6. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    User name - tescowap
    Password - password
  7. Press the Save button to save and quit this screen. The save icon looks like a floppy disk, for those of us who remember them!
  8. Now select edit MMS APN.
  9. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    WAP gateway (URL) - 193.113.200.195
    WAP gateway port - 8080
    MMSC (URL) - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
  10. Press the Save button at the bottom of the page to save and quit this screen.

Windows Phone 8

From the homescreen:

  1. Swipe across the screen to bring up the apps list
  2. Open the Settings app
  3. Tap Mobile network and ensure the data connection is switched on
  4. Go back to the apps list, scroll down and tap on Settings
  5. Tap on Access point
  6. If your network name is showing in the list, tap it to make it active, otherwise tap add
  7. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    Connection name - Tesco Internet
    Internet APN:
    Access point name - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    MMS APN:
    Access point name - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    Proxy address - 193.113.200.195
    Proxy port - 8080
    MMSC address - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    (As a check, the image below shows blue text in the fields you should have completed)
  8. Tap the tick at the bottom to save
  9. You should now see 3G, H, E or G on the top line of the display. This indicates you are connected to the data network

Windows Phone 7/7.5/7.8

From the homescreen;

  1. Tap the right arrow or swipe across the screen to access the apps list
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Mobile network
  4. Tap Add apn
  5. Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
    Name - Tesco Internet
    Tick the box to make this the default apn
    Internet APN:
    APN - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    MMS APN:
    MMS Access Point Name - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
    Username - tescowap
    Password - password
    Proxy address - 193.113.200.195
    Proxy port - 8080
    MMSC address - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    (The image above is from Windows Phone 8. WP7/7.5/7.8 are very similar, but some fields appear in a different order so be careful when comparing your handset to the picture)
  6. Tap the tick or disk icon to save
  7. Confirm the APN change
  8. You should now see 3G, H, E or G on the top line of the display. This indicates you are connected to the data network

How to connect a Nokia feature phone to Tesco data services

Setting up new APN settings manually isn’t particularly common, and the area we need to work on is buried a little deeper in the handset than other settings. There are separate settings that have to be entered for internet and MMS APNs, just be careful to enter the right information in the right section!

As a check, the images below the instructions show yellow text in the fields which should be completed

Internet APN

From the homescreen;

  1. Tap Menu
  2. Tap Configuration
  3. Tap Personal settings
  4. Tap Options
  5. Tap Add new
  6. Tap Web
  7. Tap Account name, enter Tesco Internet and tap OK
  8. Tap Homepage, enter http://m.google.com and tap OK
  9. Tap Use pref. acc. pt. and tap No
  10. Tap Acc point sett.
  11. Tap Bearer settings
  12. Tap Pack. data acc. pt., enter prepay.tesco-mobile.com and tap OK
  13. Tap Username, enter tescowap and tap OK
  14. Tap Password, enter password and tap OK
  15. Tap Back three times
  16. Press and hold your finger on the Tesco Internet name and tap Activate
  17. Tap Back
  18. Tap Def. config. sett. and tap Personal config
  19. Tap Default
  20. Tap Back twice to return to the home screen
  21. You should now see 3G, H, E or G in the top left corner of the screen. This indicates your handset is connecting to the internet.

From the homescreen;

  1. Tap Menu
  2. Tap Configuration
  3. Tap Personal settings
  4. Tap Options
  5. Tap Add new
  6. Tap Multimedia msg
  7. Tap Account name, enter Tesco MMS and tap OK
  8. Tap Server address, enter http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 and tap OK
  9. Tap Use pref. acc. pt. and tap No
  10. Tap Acc point sett.
  11. Tap Proxy and tap Enable
  12. Tap Proxy address, enter 193.113.200.195 and tap OK
  13. Tap Proxy port, enter 8080 and tap OK
  14. Tap Bearer settings
  15. Tap Pack. data acc. pt., enter prepay.tesco-mobile.com and tap OK
  16. Tap Username, enter tescowap and tap OK
  17. Tap Password, enter password and tap OK
  18. Tap Back three times
  19. Press and hold your finger on the Tesco MMS name and tap Activate
  20. Tap Back
  21. Tap Def. config. sett. and tap Personal config
  22. Tap Default
  23. Tap Back twice to return to the home screen
