Sonos changes the way you listen to music

Sonos multi-room speaker kit

Agent Jason Baldwin looks at why the Sonos multi-room speaker kit will be music to your ears.

The more I get to play with the Sonos multi-room speaker kit, the more I love it. Essentially it's a wireless music system that you put around your home, creating different zones in different rooms.

The main Sonos unit needs to be attached to your wireless router but the others don't need to be connected to anything. They all work completely wirelessly, taking their signal from the router.

What I really love about Sonos is the fact that the whole thing is powered from the one machine, yet still you can choose whether to blast the same song around the whole house or play different music in each room.

You can stream music from the internet or it can look through your computer's hard drive and find the tunes there.

You can set up playlists, listen to the radio and lots more - you really have to have a play with it to believe just how good it is. Honestly.

I think because it sounds so impressive, some people are scared off because they think it will too difficult to set up. But it's actually incredibly easy.

Sonos is already picking up interest in a lot of our stores and it's only a matter of time before it catches on massively. We can even install it for you to save you the hassle.

People who have never heard of it are soon really interested. Last week we sold one to a guy who only came in to fix his wife's phone. I talked him through it all, he forgot about the phone and said: "I'm going to take one today then." He bought the whole kit.

The only real downside is it's not actually that cheap right now. I don't know if the price will come down in time, but to get the whole thing up and running you're looking at about £800.

There are other options you can go for - you don't have to take the whole bundle - so you can get a version to suit your budget and the rooms in your home.

The other great thing is there's now an iPhone and Android app for it to use the phone as a remote.

Once you've tried it, I guarantee you will never listen to music in any other way again.
