What is Skype?

Skype is free software that allows you to make free and low-cost voice and video calls to anyone in the world using your internet connection.

You can ring other Skype accounts, normal landline phones or mobiles plus send instant messages, SMS texts and have voicemail.

It uses your broadband connection rather than phone line to route the calls over the internet, which keeps the cost right down. It is known as VoIP.
