Xbox Slim goes on sale

Date: July 16 2010

Xbox 360

A brand-new Xbox 360 console goes on sale today – with a design upgrade to make it the slimmest yet.

The Xbox 360 Slim – see what Microsoft did there – comes with a 250GB hard drive and a glossier shiny look.

It has been upgraded to work with Microsoft's new Kinect system due out at Christmas. The movement-based gaming system will plug straight into the back of the Slim and power itself through the machine.

Older Xbox 360s will still work with Kinect but you'll need external electricity from the wall plug to get it going.

Other advances include a smaller power pack and built-in wireless.

It uses the latest wireless N technology so you can connect to your router and broadband for online gaming and Xbox Live and to stream movies and music from your computer to the TV the Xbox is connected to.

Previously you had to buy a special adapter that plugged in the back.

The Xbox 360 Slim is also quieter than the ones that have come before.

Costing £199, there's a bit of a price war on right now with the supermarkets slashing the price by more than a tenner – so shop around for the best deal.

Our friends at The Carphone Warehouse are offering an Xbox 360 Slim for FREE when you take out a new mobile phone contract. Choose from a range of handsets from £20 a month and you'll bag the console for nothing.
