Xbox Kinect to cost £130
Date: July 21 2010
If you've not yet heard of Xbox Kinect then get ready for some fun from this Christmas on the Microsoft games console.
It turns the machine into a Wii-style movement sensing play thing and you can read more about it in our Coming Soon section. Just click the link on the top right.
The good news is, it will work with every single existing Xbox 360 unit out there right now. You won't have to buy new hardware.
But the bad news is, the Kinect equipment will cost you £129.99. That's pretty much the same price as a Nintendo Wii.
For that price though you get the Kinect Adventures game thrown in and a whole lot of technology to transform your home entertainment.
The Kinect sensor lets you control the machine using your voice or allows you to browse music stored on the hard drive with a wave of your hand. And it can work as a webcam too for video chat.
Chris Lewis, of Microsoft Europe, said: "Kinect for Xbox 360 offers fantastic new ways to be entertained for the whole family. With full body, voice and multiplayer play straight out of the box, Kinect is a unique way for everyone to enjoy controller-free fun and entertainment." More than 15 games will be available when Kinect launches later this year with a whole range of movement challenges from dancing to sports to exercise.
Microsoft has also announced a brand new version of the Xbox 360 Slim, a 4GB model using internal flash memory rather than a separate more costly hard drive. Due out on August 20, it will cost £149.99.
