I don't mind admitting I've been a geek all my life. I've always been into computers and have a real passion for technology. I'm always the go-to guy for all my friends' and family's computer problems.
Geek Squad, Technology and Me!
- I love the idea of being called an Agent...
...I always say that I want a 007 badge number like James Bond! But seriously, I think it's brilliant I've made a career out of my passion. I personally specialise in Windows, Microsoft and networking. I like to get technology talking together. At home I've set up an entire media centre, which means I can stream my music and games throughout the house wirelessly. It's all in sync and all set up through a server, which is brilliant. My friends are very impressed, they think it's quite futuristic and geeky but I don't mind. - Home visits are a key part of what we do...
...they're such a great idea. Often they are more convenient for people, but not only that, it can be easier for customers to interact when you're actually face-to-face. They are then able to ask any questions they might have and overall it helps put a human face on the problem and make it less worrying and frustrating for customers. - Our customers are lovely...
...not too long ago an elderly lady came into the shop lugging her massive desktop computer to be fixed. It was way too heavy for her to be carrying round. So I offered to drop it home for her as it was on the way back to my house. She came in the next day with a fudge cake to say 'Thank You'. How nice is that?
Essential Gadget
Custom-built computer
I put it together myself. It's got 12GB of RAM and runs really fast with four hard drives as one.
Favourite Gadget
BlackBerry 9000
It is fantastic for communicating using email and has all the applications I need on the move.
I'd recommend...
PlayStation 3
Another really popular choice, but it's a great gaming gadget, and I do love mine.
Watch out for...
Microsoft Surface
This is like a tabletop computer and is already used in some businesses. The thing is chalked in for coming out properly in 2012. It's basically a computer in a coffee table and allows you to control everything with touch. It is so exciting and I can't wait to see how it turns out. It is like the sort of thing you would see in a sci-fi movie. It really is amazing to watch working.
My most satisfying Geek Squad moment...
...the customer interaction. I've never had anything but a good response and that sort of positive feedback or simply seeing a nice big smile on a customer's face makes it all worthwhile.
WE CARE ABOUT TECHNOLOGY AND ABOUT YOU
It's a common misconception that tech experts have no people skills. I really enjoy meeting the customers and I think they like the fact that we put a human face on it - rather than speaking to an anonymous call centre operative.
