I'm probably one of the least tech-minded people here. It's not my job to know every last thing about every computer or phone ever built. We have people here who do that. I look after the Agents and callers.

Geek Squad, Technology and Me!

  • I ended up in Geek Squad almost by accident...
...as I worked in customer service for The Carphone Warehouse at first. Geek Squad were doing a presentation to explain to people what they were offering as a service. I went along because I liked the name of it. But as I was listening in on what Geek Squad had to say, it became increasingly obvious to me that I had to be a part of it. It's such a fun and useful service and I couldn't resist begging them into taking me on. I haven't looked back since.
  • We're allowed to be that little bit quirky...
...and that suits me because apparently I'm a bit insane. You don't have to be mad to work here but we're all just that little bit different. If you go to the canteen for lunch there's always a Geek Squad Agent you can sit down and chat to and then learn from. In other jobs I've done, you aren't normally keen on sitting with someone completely random from your department to eat but here it's always interesting and you find out so much.
  • We have a thing called "Fun Friday"...
...which means every Friday each Agent gets 15 minutes off and we set up a tournament of some kind. We'll do Geek Squad Olympics on the Nintendo Wii or something like that. One of the Agents will no doubt video it all and upload it onto YouTube. You can see us up there doing the Wii with some Benny Hill music dubbed over the top. It's quite funny. I love stuff like that, it's good fun and is great for bonding with our colleagues.
Essential Gadget - Samsung N140 Laptop
Essential Gadget
BlackBerry

I wanted one forever, and wasn't disappointed. I love it and couldn't imagine my life without it.

Favourite Gadget - iPhone
Favourite Gadget
Nintendo Wii

It's brilliant for making people active when gaming. Instead of loafing around, kids move about.

I'd recommend - Hands-free Bluetooth
I'd recommend...
Sky+

I get ribbed for loving Sky+ so much, but it's so easy to use and really changes how you watch your television.

Watch out for - Internet TV
Watch out for...
Anything about Apple iPad

I'm not sure we need the Apple iPad, the new large touchscreen device which looks like a big iPhone or iPod touch. The thing for me is that mobile phones are so underestimated already. They are all just like small computers, so why is the iPad any better? You can't even make calls on it. My partner's a prime example as he's got a Nokia N95, and he only uses it as a phone. It is a powerful computer, and the trouble is, people don't always understand how to make the most of their handset. Our Mobile Set-up and Sync service can help with that.

My most satisfying Geek Squad moment...

...watching people develop in their careers. We don't have a lot of people leaving Geek Squad, people tend to grow and grow here as people and Agents and helping them to do that can be really satisfying. I get a massive kick out of it.

WE CARE ABOUT TECHNOLOGY AND ABOUT YOU

The best bit about being a Geek Squad Agent is we're all friends. So many call centres are full of strangers. We're a real little team here, and if someone doesn't know something, we know exactly who to lean on for help.
