FACTORY RESTORE

After a while, computers fill up with all sorts of files and programs you don't need. By taking the machine back to its original state, it can run like new. This is also a solution if an operating system stops your machine from working.

  • We will need the discs that came with your computer
  • A Factory Restore deletes all hard drive contents
  • An Agent can help you backup data and re-load it all

We always recommend customers backup precious files before an Agent carries out any job. This is your responsibility but we can advise how to do this if you're unsure. Our Data Backup or Transfer service takes away any hassle or confusion.

You might think you'll never need them but always keep safe the discs and manuals that come with your computer. These allow you to easily reset the machine to the factory settings if there is a problem.

What we need from you to do a Factory Restore

Many new laptops have an area hidden on the hard drive, which allows us to do a Factory Restore. It usually takes about 45 minutes and we can visit you At Home or see us In Store at The Carphone Warehouse or Best Buy. Older machines will need the discs that came with your computer when you bought it. You will also need a valid license key for the operating system installed on the machine, such as Windows XP, Vista or 7. You'd have been given this when the computer was new, normally on a card that came in the box. If you don't have it, you may need a brand new OS to install from scratch.
